This year’s line-up gets a little meaner a little darker and a little closer to death with the likes of speed metal titans Slayer Poland’s satanic Behemoth Florida’s death metal father’s Cannibal Corpse Boston’s Killswitch Engage UK’s Bullet For My Valentine and Disneyland’s Marilyn Manson plus many others including Trivium Job For A Cowboy and God Forbid. Behemoth assaulted the crowd at the Hot Topic stage with a theatrical and unrelentingly intense set. As guitarist-vocalist Nergal growled over each scorching riff mesmerized fans loyally extended their devil horns and swayed back and forth to the hypnotic double-kick rolls. It wasn’t as much a rock show as it was a dark vulgar mass—which was surprisingly palatable at 4 on a Sunday afternoon.
