But when he dons a wig whiteface and a futuristic KISS-style costume he becomes Johannes Krauser II mother-rapin' front man for the indy "evil-core" band Detroit Metal City (any echo of KISS' "Detroit Rock City" is strictly intentional). Loved by his rabid fans for his shrieking lyrics about sexual assault and murder (the band's signature song "Satsugai" translates into "Kill 'em all") and hardcore monstrous persona Krauser is an embarrassment to Soichi who would rather be a singer in the mold of whispery-voiced Kari Kahimi than the raspy creature he portrays in DMC. Unfortunately for our sensitive new age guy he can't get arrested singing sweet pop confections like "Raspberry Kiss" while his celebrations of rape and domination are finding a growing cult of fans.

This time around the music and lyrics are far more aggressive and poignant. Topics covered include American xenophobia terrorist paranoia and the metal scene’s aversion to politics. Musically the metal begins to grind just as hard as it thrashes taking nods from genre defining bands like NAPALM DEATH and TERRRIZER. Read close and you’ll still find party thrash anthems about a zombie killing lawyer and Thor’s hammer but this is by no means a flash in the pan revival band. Bryan Anderson the 35-year-old owner of the label said he’s already received requests for copies of “Instruments of Death” from distributors in Holland Sweden Greece and other countries where Faith or Fear’s name is still known and where there’s a renewed interest in thrash among young headbangers. “I’ve gotten e-mails from people all over the world who are looking forward to it and they are anxious to hear it” Anderson said in a recent telephone interview from his home in Idaho Falls. Thrash is a style of music that falls somewhere between metal and punk and is known for its unrelenting tempos and pulverizing rhythms. Anderson said thrash is enjoying a resurgence because “honestly I think people are getting kind of bored with the newer metal that’s coming out because it all sounds the same. “There was a time when Bombeke a divorced father of three children thought he might never play guitar again.
