CRKERS: Meet the new death metal
San Diego Union Tribune
After that it was Metallica Megadeath Guns N Roses Motley Crue and Poison. We’re completely failing to mention the effect gangsta rap had on white Middle American suburban children as early as the ’90s. The most popular music of the times always has and forever will be shunned by the majority of the previous generation. This is the law of life. Anyway sometime in the late ’70s in the depths of some sweaty club in Chicago disco gave birth to house music. Eventually it moved to Europe where it downed a few decades’ worth of hormones.

Coachella music fest flies high
USA Today
ther non-performing musicians seen at Coachella were Stewart Copeland of the Police Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and “Weird Al” Yankovic. The vibe: The installation art in the center of the polo field created the feel of a lost village inspired by the hallucinogenic genius of Lewis Carroll. The most popular installations were probably the chomping fire-breathing metal dragon Serpent Mother from San Francisco and the kinetic art of the Cauac Twins back for its eighth year from Los Angeles. Veteran stars: For the 10th anniversary Coachella featured such veteran artists as Leonard Cohen Public Enemy Paul Weller from The Jam Morrissey (turning 50 next month) L. punk pioneers X and Booker T. Jones with his new band Booker T & the DBTs.

Metal mania

You¡re bound to land on one of them. ¡E Shredding: Playing mind-bogglingly difficult guitar solos at a frankly ridiculous breakneck speed (without needing surgery to sew your fingers back together). ¡E Blast beat technique: Used by extreme metal bands like Napalm Death whereby kick drum snare and cymbals are played at a frankly ridiculous breakneck speed (you may sense a pattern emerging). ¡E Death growl: The ability to make your singing resemble a dozen water buffalo being tortured with blunt instruments. Not something to play to grandma. r pretty much anyone. ¡E Cymbal choke: The art of grabbing one¡s cymbal straight after whacking it for added emphasis.

Rock Band 2 Twice the Fun

First and foremost the song list in Rock Band 2 includes 85 tracks and most of the songs are much more respectable than that of the previous installment. Instead of simply trying to appeal to the Top 40 music crowd this time EA Games finally wised up and realized that songs by The Strokes Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Killers are just as boring to play in Rock Band as they are to play in a real band. Rock Band 2 offers more in the way of real rock bands like Alice in Chains and Social Distortion and a much larger selection of metal including bands like Testament Dream Theater Mastadon Judas Priest and even some death metal by the name of Abnormality. There is also a somewhat impressive number of metal tracks available for download from bands like The Haunted Children of Bodom and Lamb of God. Being a real guitarist myself I can totally appreciate the additions made to this game such as easily being able to identify the hammer-ons; with slightly smaller buttons. Unfortunately I still do not particularly care for the design of the Rock Band guitars and I still prefer to use the Guitar Hero peripherals; oh well you can’t win ‘em all. The true oddity to the situation is that Guitar Hero World Tour is now the game that has really wussed out in the song-list department.
