Metallica proves its metal
Newsday NY
We still feel like we have one foot in relevance and that we still have a lot to give so we’re continuing to focus on playing. Staying relevantAs the band’s upcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame confirms Metallica thundered its way into rock royalty 25 years ago with its debut “Kill ‘Em All” and despite lots of high-profile ups and downs hasn’t relinquished its position since. How do they stay relevant?”When all else fails call Rick Rubin” jokes Ulrich name-checking the producer of “Death Magnetic. But Hetfield takes the question seriously adding “making music that connects with people and then playing the songs live and not splitting it out but making it a part of your live set your work. “We’re road dogs” he says. “Live is our thing. We’ve gone on the road from the beginning and pounded and pounded A B and C markets to get a huge following.

Power metal: a genre defined

This is not to say that there are not American power metal outfits but they typically hold as much or more support overseas than here in their home country. A concise listing of standard power metal characteristics would include a fairly fast tempo a greater emphasis on vocals soaring melodies virtuosic lead guitar players lyrics that typically deal with fantasy or fictional themes and a tendency to include the keyboard as a main melody instrument. Instead of the misanthropic depressing and sometimes anti-Christian themes associated with death and black metal power metal especially of the European variety has a strong tendency to include positive ideals. To the casual listener a symphonic power metal song may sound like something out of a fantasy movie soundtrack. All told power metal has a tendency to be more catchy upbeat and positive than any other form of metal and it’s not one that your mother would be ashamed to have you listening to either. We don’t look very metal I guess but we play pretty heavy. It’s not a big deal for us how we dress. It’s all about the music. “Ray Ramirez guitarist for Hazel Park’s melodic death metal-meets-hardcore band Introvert agrees. “I think metal lets people get out their aggression. It’s the most diverse genre of music I’d say.

CANNIBAL CRPSE’s ALEX WEBSTER Reveals Scariest Guitar Scale – Jan …

A diminished scale has both of those in it so if you’re trying to make stuff dark you have to beware of implying a major tonality; but it also has the triton ? the diminished fifth ? which is the darkest-sounding interval you’re going to find. It has minor thirds in there major sixths which are inverted minor thirds ? you’re dealing with a lot of the darker-sounding more mysterious-sounding intervals. It just lends itself to death metal. If some musicologist ever cared to study our band or other death metal bands they’d probably just see that scale popping up all over the place because it works so well. Metal Maniacs: Is that the scale that’s used in “Black Sabbath” by BLACK SABBATH?Alex Webster: Yeah I mean it’s a diminished arpeggio I guess you could say ? “Bomp Boomp BAAA” ? there’s the root the octave and then it goes to the diminished fifth the third note; it’s a root diminished fifth octave arpeggio basically in that song. It’s gotta be one of the most if not the most evil-sounding riffs in metal history and it’s the song that kind of ushered in the dark side of rock?Metal Maniacs: I hope we aren’t getting too technical here. But it is very interesting?Alex Webster: Honestly as much as CANNIBAL CRPSE is a band known for controversial lyrics artwork and that sort of stuff what we’re really focused on is music.

The Note which is at 142 E. and is owned by “Jackass” star Bam Margera (a West Chester native) has drawn national acts such as The Eagles of Death Metal and Blues Traveler as well as top-notch regional acts like The Tressels of Drexel Hill and The Spinto Band of Wilmington. The Note boasts excellent sound a high stage that makes it easy to see acts from the back of the longish venue and a swank upstairs balcony that features a second bar and super-cozy couches and chairs. The food there rivals the tunes and the star of the bar-grub-loaded menu is the Glutton an order that brings you any sandwich in the lineup with grilled cheese sandwiches substituting for the usual bun. Like The Note the idea behind the Flash is to bring people into the music-starved area especially those who have not been there before encouraging them to grab dinner at a restaurant before a show or have a drink at a bar afterward. It seems to be working already.

An Interview With The Members f Till Doomsday

How did you guys all meet and come together as a band? Mike: I met Dallas in a local music forum and we have been on the same page since day one. I was in another band which I guess you could call a side project with Robert (drums) and Keith (bass) and I decided to fuse it together with those two entering the lineup. There’s definitely that old Metallica meat and potatoes metal foundation but with lots of sharp-edged lead fills. xFiruath: The info on your MySpace page says that your music focuses on end times prophecies specifically in the book of Revelations. Would you consider yourselves a religious band or is the “end times” aspect there more to give your music a darker feel? Mike: I’m not a huge fan of ?religion? or institution due to corruption and misinformation.
