ften accused of being merely tongue-in-cheek (anaccusation bolstered by the duo’s use of pseudonyms such as Carlo von Sexronand some notably priapic live shows) EoDM here sound both in thrall to theback catalogues they’re immersed in and dedicated to the music they’ve made:there is humour here certainly but not of the in-joking kind. Tracks suchas Wannabe in LA Cheap Thrills High Voltage and the Steely Dan-indebtedNow I’m a Fool instead suggest a band too set on finding the killer chord toentertain thoughts of kitsch or pale pastiche.

In between those major trends some micro-trends may be seen within the core metal community as well. For some time melodic elements were making their way back into metal. Now it seems that adding progressive elements to metal is the new micro-trend. The growing popularity of progressive death and black metal bands as well as the number of newer metal bands from all sub-genres appearing with progressive and technical elements is a sure sign of the growing trend. Fortunately this isn’t a “trendy” trend and you probably won’t see teens jumping en masse from emo and metalcore to peth and bscura anytime soon. “It’s an ongoing discussion” said Hetfield. “Between who do people know and actually care about who actually respects you as a band – you don’t just want some popular guy who’s attracting TV viewers to induct you just because of that. ”There are certainly a slew of new and young metal bands that would be perfect in the eyes of hardcore music fans to induct Metallica and despite Hetfield’s apprehension it will take someone of interest to present them into the Rock Hall but it can be done so that it makes complete sense too. zzy sbourne would be perfect to induct the group. Like Ray Charles presenting Billy Joel in 1999 it would be the cool to see the proverbial teacher welcoming in the student. And Metallica inducted Black Sabbath in 2006 so it would be sort a completion of a circle. To add some tension to the festivities why not tap Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine to handle the duties? The frontman and guitarist used to be in Metallica before being unceremoniously kicked out before the first record was released and has harbored a great deal of animosity and competition with the group over the years as detailed in the 2004 documentary “Some Kind of Monster.
