Music Review: Musical mastery
Cardinal Courier NY
This album picks up right where Bloodbath left off with their last EP Unblessing the Purity and it continues with the same high tempo mix of classic death metal. Lyrically the album brings an anti-religious theme something they’ve touched upon in their past few releases. While religion (or lack thereof) is usually set aside for black metalers it’s not uncommon to see black metal mixed with death metal. The searing “At the Behest of their Death” begins the album with pummeling blast beats that compliment vicious guitar work and Mikael Akerfeldt’s throaty vocals. From there the pace doesn’t let up. The next two tracks offer the same ferocious style.

KII ARENS Wednesday: Eagles of Death Metal spread their wings and fly

MUSIC Compiled by Sarah TresslerEAGLES F DEATH METAL If the Dictators came from the high desert or Alice Cooper had stayed in Arizona the guitars would sound about the same but you’d be able to fry an egg on the amplifiers. And although that’s not a diet that lets anybody live to an age where they finally get a respectable golf game it’s good food for the Eagles of Death Metal who started simply as an outlet for Jesse Hughes’ throbbing id and who throb now with energy transmitted through licked finger from electric outlet. It’s a heavy band and you know how that goes – what they wanna do they do and who they wanna screw they screw. Impartial Dismemberment growing Staten Island’s deathcore music scene

“Staten Island is different from a lot of other places — it’s sort of who you know when it comes to getting people to shows” says Port Richmond musician Boudreau 22 who writes lyrics with Diaz. “But it’s coming back. In a way deathcore is saving death metal because it’s introducing a new group of kids who are hardcore fans to an older type of music. Diaz and Boudreau say they borrow some of the gory lyrical themes of death metal and blend them with some of the more social issues found in hardcore lyrics. They swear they never ever “write about girls. ” Their anti-emo teenage fans seem to enjoy this fact. Evidence can be found in the band’s song “This Time.
