“But surely there cannot be this many genres of metal?”h I was once as innocent and na’ve as you. But as it turns out after listening to countless lectures on metal music from my good friend Paul metal is as diverse a species as homo sapiens. There’s heavy metal death metal black metal grindcore rapcore nu metal the ever popular groove metal folk metal and my personal favorite – Viking metal a veritable Wonka factory of metal. Now of course you raise the very important question “Am I supposed to care about all of this garbage?” Yes actually you are – and here’s my first point: there are so many genres of metal that a new metal band can potentially come into existence and claim it is its own genre simply by saying it has fused the styles of two different bands who have done the same thing before them. There aren’t this many genres of metal because the music is different enough for such variations to exist; this “genre”-fication exists because otherwise new metal bands get pegged as being followers. And we all know you cannot be a follower and still be metal (exclamation point).

MENDACITY AwayProgressive Death Metal from Florida. The heavy parts are Swedish-like…throughout they meddle through melodic passages with clean vocals and clean note-based riffing and watery solos. KRISIUN Combustion InfernoBrazilian blast fuckers. Nothing much has changed here.

eaglesofdeathmetal. With their boogie-woogie hooks and sold-my-soul-to-the-devil kitsch the band has single-handedly sent hipster libidos skyrocketing. And rightfully so because nobody else tiptoes through 70s garage rock quite like these boys. If Elvis was a dirty punk mechanic who traded the glittery gutters of Las Vegas for those in Hollywood he would not be a part of this band. But he sure as hell would listen to it.

It was announced at the news conference that Metallica will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. Run-DMC joins the heavy metal band Metallica guitarist and former Yardbirds member Jeff Beck; soul singer and guitarist Bobby Womack and doo-wop group Little Anthony and the Imperials as this year’s inductee class. Though Run-DMC wasn’t among the first rap acts they were the first to achieve widespread mainstream success and the first to notch a platinum album with 1986′s “Raising Hell. ” The rapping duo of Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels — plus their DJ the late Jam Master Jay — were rap’s first rock stars. They had hits with songs like “My Adiddas” and “It’s Tricky” but had their greatest success when they remade Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” with the rock act for a groundbreaking collaboration. In an interview Wednesday McDaniels called Run-DMC’s induction “inconceivable.

PEN GRAVE RECRDS has announced the signing of Nevada-based death metal band I BUILT THE CRSS. I BUILT THE CRSS was formed during the summer of 2008 by two long time-time friends and ex-members of the popular death metal band Disfiguring the Goddess. As friends Reed and Gare have been closer than brothers since before either of them can remember and as musicians they’ve been working together for the last several years. Although they have been involved in musical projects spanning various different genres all across the board they claim that death metal is the only form of musical expression that can truly make their hearts minds and desires most tangible.
