In the current economic climate can either party afford to carry on with business as usual? It’s possible that live music becomes more necessary in tough times but necessity doesn’t make it more affordable. Touring is costly and labor-intensive; so is going to a show. A trade that’s always been speculative — if we book it will they come? — feels more vulnerable right now… A creation dubbed the Mayhem Festival rushes into the breach July 30 at Cruzan with Slipknot Disturbed Dragonforce Five Finger Death Punch 36 Crazyfists and Miami’s teen metal titans Black Tide. The Warped Tour inaugurated in 1995 to showcase punk and ska continues its unbroken summer streak returning July 12 to Miami’s Bicentennial Park. Visit Wyoming rethink ski resorts in summer
San Francisco Chronicle – May 25, 2008
tmpl –>Ski resorts in summer have traditionally been a tough sell. Despite marketing efforts to reinvent black-diamond runs as death-defying mountain bike rides for most of us it’s just a lot of steep hills with no fun easy or head-trauma-free way to come down them except by foot. tmpl –> Images… Once they arrive there are more entertainment options than at a typical family camp – but with none of the forced socializing. Bungee trampoline an obstacle course a climbing wall hula hoops disc golf silver nugget mining scavenger hunts and guided nature walks are just a sampling of the mostly free activities. There’s also daily entertainment – storytelling bluegrass music juggling shows – and the Sundeck Restaurant where you can fill up on sandwiches salads and pizza while taking in glorious views of the Elk Mountains before tackling one of the hiking or biking trails. In Squaw Valley there’s so much to do around the European-style ski village you might never get around to seeing Lake Tahoe 15 minutes down the road. Everything here seems designed with families in mind – from the pedestrian-only layout condo recreation areas with hot tubs and pool tables and multiple outdoor eating options (including a Ben & Jerry’s). There are free outdoor movies a miniature golf course bungee jumping a trapeze and ropes course a rock-climbing wall a candle making shop a wine-tasting bar and a spa. And that’s just on the plaza.

It’s too early to tell what the six grandchildren will take an interest in. “It’s been productive so long” Glover says. “To have it go back to weeds and trees would be painful… Reynolds and Winfrey are operating as Love is Love Farm an homage to a favorite song by the rock band Lungfish. A farm newsletter is named Rocket From the Field a tribute to the bands Rocket From the Crypt and Rocket From the Tomb. “Judith and I listen to absurd amounts of music” Reynolds says. The Glovers have kept some farm duties. Cookie grows flowers and Skip handles 23 hives of bees.
