(Ben Ratliff)CLOUD CULT (Friday) This Minneapolis band is so environmentally conscious that it asks fans to send in old CD jewel cases to be cleaned and reused. But in its music the group is less… (Sisario)GIGANTOUR: MEGADETH HIGH ON FIRE IN FLAMES CHILDREN OF BODOM JOB FOR A COWBOY (Tuesday and Wednesday) Megadeth’s annual package tour is its insurance policy against going unnoticed in the media but it’s also a public service for metal heads who need some updating. If you’re a class-of-’85 Megadeth fan you really should know about High on Fire a trio from Oakland that plays some of the most ferociously doomy sets in rock. In Flames a Swedish band has been around since the early ’90s playing shiny pop-rock anthems with grooves but still the usual scoured metal singing; Children of Bodom from Finland are a good deal thrashier; the young men in Job for a Cowboy play lumpen Arizona death-metal. ‘ And I’m just like ‘Sure. This is one hell of an ego inflator but I’ll believe it when I’m on it. ‘ “In July following their appearance at this year’s Bonnaroo Music Festival on June 12 the Sword will indeed be heading out with Metallica and Down for a seven-gig European tour which launches July 16 in Bergen Norway. “It’s pretty mind-blowing” Richie enthused. For a little-known band signed to an independent label the Sword have certainly come a long way since forming back in 2003. They’ve released two critically lauded LPs 2006’s Age of Winters and 2008’s Gods of the Earth and may even participate in this summer’s Ozzfest (when asked if his band had been approached for the heavy-metal festival Richie demurred saying “I don’t really know that I’m at liberty to talk about that”). Sales of Gods of the Earth — which was released earlier this month and had it not been for time constraints would have featured guest appearances by Lamb of God’s Mark Morton and Clutch’s Mick Schauer — have been better than you’d imagine… The pride of Brazilian death metal Krisiun are hard at work on their next LP with producer Andy Classen (Rotting Christ). The still-untitled effort is slated for release this summer and when more information about the record is released we’ll bring it to you here.

In Flames CD Review
OSU Daily Barometer – Apr 18, 2008
Titled “A Sense of Purpose” this album is the veteran group’s follow-up to 2006’s “Come Clarity. ” Some definite departures from previous efforts can be heard but old fans and metal newcomers alike will find many reasons to put up the metal horns. Formed in 1990 by Jesper Strömblad in Gothenburg Sweden the group joined other acts such as At the Gates and Dark Tranquility in pioneering the melodic death metal genre. While earlier In Flames albums of the 1990s were much darker and featured much harsher vocals the In Flames of today has greatly toned down the “death metal” aspect and creates songs featuring a hybrid of melodic guitar style gritty vocals and the brutality of heavy metal. “A Sense of Purpose” fires off first with the single “The Mirror’s Truth” a jarring whirlwind of harmonized guitars and in-your-face vocals that catches the attention immediately. “Disconnected” follows up perfectly and features a powerful chorus that exudes passion. “Sleepless Again” starts off with a beautiful acoustic introduction before launching full-force into the song… Following that song the remaining tracks pick up the pace again but nothing stands out quite as well as offerings from the first half. These are minor complaints however and do not spoil an otherwise great album. Any self-respecting metal fan or anyone looking for quality heavy music would do themselves a favor to find “A Sense of Purpose. Grade: A-Check Out: “The Mirror’s Truth” “Disconnected” “I’m the Highway” “Delight and Angers”Avoid: “The Chosen Pessimist”Evan Connetdiversions@dailybarometer. com © Copyright 2008 The Daily Barometer.

And I play it loud singing along in a voice that’s more burpy than it’s probably meant to sound and dark. Always always dark. And the lyrics are lots of fun to sing along with though morbid:"There are no fingerprintsDeep under waterNothing to tie one to a crimeAnd if you seek vengeanceAll you need are instruments of pain. "It’s awful I know but it’s really catchy.
