com or (800) 594-8499. There are two main kinds of difficult music: the kind that seems merely to want to test an audience’s patience and the kind that rewards its audience’s patience. Six rgans of Admittance definitely makes the second kind. n one level the band is a project of Ben Chasny whose indie-rock background also includes stints in Comets on Fire and August Born. Started in 1998 Six rgans seemed essentially to be a unit in which Chasny could feel free to let his guitar drone. Nevertheless and although Chasny is still primarily a guitarist Six rgans has become an increasingly prolific and accessible music project… Fortunately All That Remains will be in town just in time. Hailing from Springfield Mass. – a location not at all synonymous with death metal but never mind – this quintet isn’t merely about metal though; it’s also about melody albeit in a thoroughly metallic context. Its first album 2002′s “Behind Silence and Solitude” started a buzz that became a buzzsaw roar with 2004′s “This Darkened Heart. ” Tours with varyingly similar bands (and also with GWAR which is more a circus-metal theater act) and a stint in 2006′s zzfest followed as did a third album “The Fall of Ideals. ” Last year saw both the re-release of “Behind Silence” and the release of a live DVD so new material should be in the offing. Take someone you love.

I feel that some record does need to be kept; it again has great benefits for intelligence. But when you are faced with a group of 20 to 30 youths all drinking and acting in an anti-social manner the logistics of filling out all the forms there and then are not realistic. It can take about three to four minutes per form and longer with a Police National Computer check if the operators are busy. Three minutes multiplied by 20 youths equals time not spent dealing with other problems… n the one hand you say lots of evidence is needed to search on the other you say black people are more likely to be committing a crime and should be searched. This seems to indicate that less evidence is needed by the pol! ice to stop and search black people than is the case with white people. Marcel sborne BristolI grew up in Basingstoke in the South of England as one of a small group of friends whose common ground was Music we all liked and listened to Heavy Metal Music we wore leather jackets we had long hair big boots the whole thing. What we didn’t do was break the law however that didn’t stop the Police regularly stopping us and demanding we turn out our pockets and empty our bags. Want to know how many times they found anything illegal? That would be zero. However for a period of 6-12 months or so we were stopped almost every night. For every copper out there who wants to make things better there is a little Hitler who just wants to abuse his position.

He helped renew public interest in the event by booking acts?including the likes of Buck 65 and Feist?that would attract those who wouldn?t normally be interested in folk music. Simpson is also credited with helping the festival pay down the massive debt it was burdened with earlier this decade. This year?s edition of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival is scheduled for July 18 to 20 at its traditional home Jericho Beach Park. rocks with rock In a case of one local legend teaming up with another Vancouver punk veterans D… ?When I talked to him and finalized this thing Bob said ?I?m enormously proud of my roots and where I came from and I think that this would be a good thing to do because the band has got a great stature and great history. And I think it would be a fun thing to do. Surely that sentiment would be contradicted by the bands playing the first New Wave of British Columbia Heavy Metal (NWBCHM) Alliance Charity Festival recently announced for the Cobalt on March 15. They?ve realized that the hungry cannot live on metal alone and will donate proceeds from the show to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. The NWBCHM moniker is a tongue-in-cheek allusion to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal whose riff-heavy early 1980s adherents included Iron Maiden Saxon Diamond Head and Def Leppard. Andrew Bak the drummer for Antiquus describes fellow participants like Entropia Dead Soldier Archon Legion Retrofire and Flood of Fire as ?up-and-comers that like us are inspired by classic metal and early thrash.

As the night wore on the music reached progressively more satisfying ear-bleeding levels despite an often-lamentable sound mix. I arrived around 10 p. in time for the Saviours to take the stage. Despite a crushing two-day-old hangover (as singer Austin Barber later informed me) this band brought it… The skinnier bodies flew stageward and at least one or two shirts got twirled around in the air Petey Pablo-style. I must admit: High on Fire’s albums Blessed Black Wings and Death Is This Communion are two of my heavy-rotation traffic-anger jams. h and by the way: Saviours’ Into Abaddon dropped just a couple of weeks ago on Kemado Records. Last year we did seven shows. We?ll do festivals or something like that and we?ll put on the makeup and costumes and we?ll go the whole nine yards and give the people what they want. ne thing they don?t want is new music. If we go ‘This one?s from our new album!’ you see hundreds of people standing up and walking out of the room. Kiss put out their Psycho Circus record in 1998 and it didn?t sell! The fans don?t want Kiss 2000. They want ‘Rock and Roll All Night. ’ So we have no illusions about that… Last year was the greatest. People were stunned that there was this kind of turn out for a bunch of hair bands! People said ‘Why klahoma?’ Because that was where the mullet was invented!”n his failed attempts to book Aerosmith for a February 25th concert at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Rhode Island to benefit the victims of the 2003 Station fire: ?I ran into so many walls with Aerosmith it was unbelievable. Mainly from their management who just ‘yessed’ me to death and I knew I wasn?t getting anywhere near the band. But when I tried to go around management through friends of the band I got nowhere. So the thing fell apart. I gotta make this concert as big as I can. I?m gonna shame people into playing.

Usually one artist at the forefront of the recording arts epitomizes this vision. For the ?60s it was the Beatles; the ?70s had Led Zeppelin; the ?80s had ? hair metal. k so maybe that generation lost its voice from too much stadium screaming and panty throwing at over-dolled androgynous men but the pop-culture cable car got back on track until the death of Kurt Cobain. So of the myriad of acts vying for our attention what group has emerged now in the home stretch of this decade as the pre-eminent pioneer of modern music? I asked a few music aficionados from across the country and the answer was pretty unanimous much to my chagrin. ?I can?t think of a single band that would really be placed above Radiohead as the greatest alternative rock band of the 2000s or even the ?90s? Daniel Salas of Texas said. ?Some other bands may have received more recognition like asis but they haven?t been nearly as influential as Radiohead has been. ?Having re-stylized themselves with practically each of their seven releases their appeal seems to be their bland experimentalism which unlike the true experimentalism of bygone eras is largely innocuous and hypnotically appealing rather than trailblazing… For the ?60s it was the Beatles; the ?70s had Led Zeppelin; the ?80s had ? hair metal. k so maybe that generation lost its voice from too much stadium screaming and panty throwing at over-dolled androgynous men but the pop-culture cable car got back on track until the death of Kurt Cobain. With the release of their seventh title In Rainbows late last year the band is at the crux of their success despite the lack of a major label-deal for the first time in their nearly two-decade career.
