Well 60 of those minutesthe other 30 were spent parking in the snow getting nearly stuck in the snow coordinating on the phone with the ever-patient Bob Vigna jogging back to the car (in 19 degree weather) for interview questions and finally returning to the tour bus to get things underway. This was the first interview I’d done on a bus and before we began I had a bit of an out of body experience. Here I was sitting in the cushy back room chatting with some of the godfathers of death metal while in the room ahead of us Helmuth of Belphegor sat doing wrist-curls with at least 40 pound dumbbells and Bill Taylor (ex-Angelcorpse) was just pausing his video game a platform side-scroller on Gamecube that looked as innocuous as Megaman or Kirby. Shaking it off I sat down with the rest of the band and discussed their iconic brand of “dark art” as Bob put it. The interview was a pleasant and informative one but there still was a show to seeand perform for themso around 8:20 I packed my things and headed upstairs where Averse Sefira had just wrapped up. As I didn’t see them perform I can’t speak to their ability but opinion in the crowd seemed mixed and there were still enough empty spaces to slip through on the way to a spot at the front. Besides most people were too focused on the band to come Belphegor to discuss openers and I can’t blame them… When I missed them on their last tour with Suffocation I visualized an exaggerated account of what their set must have been like as self-punishment. It started small but by the end had reached absurd proportions: Ross Dolan belching napalm between verses Bob Vigna shifting tectonic plates with his guitar Steve Shalaty causing audience members’ torsos to explode and Bill Taylor bathing in their viscera. It was in essence a Dethklok episode brought to life and with much better music. f course no real band could live up to these expectations but Immolation surprised me in coming much closer than I would have thought. Indeed their set altogether ranks as one of the most forceful and complete embodiments of death metal that I have seen to date. I have seen younger bands play faster louder or with more technical wizardry but few have been able to capture the essence of extremity in all its forms as well as Immolation just as they have always done since the ‘Dawn of Possession’. When their set began the crowd unleashed all the energy that Belphegor had stirred up with the moshpit raging and stage-divers coming in steady waves.
Judas Priest: British Steel : Music Reviews : Rolling Stone
Rolling Stone – Feb 15, 2008
But these guys dredge up the same old sound: half-baked boogie as tedious as it is hopelessly outdated. They shouldn’t have bothered. Birmingham bashers Judas Priest on the other hand deftly defy death on their latest volcanic eruption. A considerable improvement over such previous Priest plodders as Sin after Sin and Stained Class the group’s seventh American LP rocks with a classic heavy-metal vengeance. Indeed the new record seems fueled by the machine-gun rhythms and crackling guitar attack of punk offspring like the Ramones and the Damned. The result is a collection of killer cuts: the rollicking “Rapid Fire.

Maryville Daily Times – Feb 15, 2008
Jack Sparrow’s crew. Motley surly intense it’s a reflection of the music they make their personalities their collective pasts. It’s a look that tells those who care to peer deep enough exactly where these guys come from the streets of New rleans. It’s a style that says just how much this grizzled collection of rock ‘n’ roll pirates has seen over the years from death to loss to the full fury of Mother Nature unleashed on their home city. Through storms both physical and metaphysical they’ve persevered and the result is a new album that sounds like boulders crashing down burning hillsides in hell. Not that Pepper Keenan and his bandmates particularly want to come across as a raping pillaging band of heavy metal marauders… Another tour was undertaken and the band was added to the zzfest tour in the summer of 2002. After that it was back to business as usual. Anselmo went on to focus on Superjoint Ritual the metal supergroup that included Hank III and Bower; Keenan returned to Corrosion of Conformity. It wasn’t long however before Anselmo felt the need to re-assemble his childhood compadres and the fact that the members’ hometown of New rleans had taken such a beating from Hurricane Katrina provided something of an incentive as well. According to Keenan the members’ hearts were heavy with the damage caused by the monster storm and its aftermath. Seeking solace in familiar faces who held the city in equally high esteem the band came back together in 2005 to work on new material and unleash some of the pent-up frustration they all felt in Katrina’s wake. “I was in New rleans during the storm and I managed to get my parents and grandparents out of there” Keenan said.

The Bravery experiment with second album’s sound
Drexel University The Triangle nline – Feb 15, 2008
The Bravery’s founding two members John and Sam who met at art school decided to start a band that sounded unique. Sam brought bass to the table and John brought keyboards. They were interested in everything from punk to jazz country and metal. After some tinkering with an iMac and finally the addition of three other members Michael Dirt and Anthony The Bravery was officially born. With the release of their second album The Sun and the Moon The Bravery have experimented much more than their first album The Bravery. The band dabbles with plenty of new textures and sounds as they abandon their familiar sound that they found on The Bravery. With the help of producer Brendan ‘Brien (Pearl Jam Bob Dylan) The Sun and The Moon coverts subjects of overcoming fear and negativity to an extent that could be described as spiritual… The band dabbles with plenty of new textures and sounds as they abandon their familiar sound that they found on The Bravery. With the help of producer Brendan ‘Brien (Pearl Jam Bob Dylan) The Sun and The Moon coverts subjects of overcoming fear and negativity to an extent that could be described as spiritual. The band also writes about extremes such as life and death good and evil hope and desperation; thus the album title The Sun and The Moon. The Sun and The Moon debuted at No. 24 on The Billboard 200 album chart moving about 22000 copies in its first week of release according to Nielsen SoundScan. This winter The Bravery has embarked on a full scale headlining tour with The Switches as their opening act.
