Think Boys Like Girls but more techno and talent. Download: “Hey Brittany”DETHKLKA cartoon death metal band that has gone from a 15-minute show to a new CD. Lead singer Nathan Explosion predicts world destruction via Dethklok. His lyrics are brilliant and scary. Download: “Dance With the Devil”PRTUGAL… THE MANAlaskan-bred progressive rock that calls to mind a scenario of Jack White starting a new band (that’s actually good. ) Download: “Church Mouth”MAN MANPhiladelphia’s own. Sounds like a mix between circus music and Modest Mouse. Download: “10lb Mustache”ANIMAL CLLECTIVEA soothing blend of ambient music and relatively insane lyrics. Children’s laughter and birds chirping can be heard on some tracks. Download: “Did You See the Words”TEGAN & SARAThese Canadian twins are finally getting the recognition they deserve with melodic songs and a fresh voice in a saturated singer-songwriter market. Download: “The Con”SUFJAN STEVENSStevens is a folk-rock composer and singer who has released some of most original works of this decade.
Athens Music Scene

By the way — it is definitely too late to wish me a Happy New Year — but thanks for the thought. See you at the gig!Casa CantinaTonight People Might Benefit from the jamming of Black Spyral Dancer and (perhaps) others at the Casa Cantina. Their metal take on jazzier and darker material is refreshing. Friday night DJ Barticus spins tunes for your dancing delight on a variety of media. Early evening Saturday The Bob Stewart Band brings their James Taylor-esque musical style to the Casa Cantina in support of the Feral Colony Caretakers spay and neuter fund. This runs from 6-8. Saturday Morgantown’s Moon fuses straightforward rock energy with a ’60s boppin’ sound reminiscent of the Kinks and bands that might have a penchant for "Do Do Do-s" and "La La La-s… Friday night is Merengue night so very popular among the international set. Saturday night Brent Hopper and Brittany Reilly hit Athens on their way South for the winter. These folks mix all kinds of roots music into an acoustical bag of tricks; good singing too. The Paranormals will open (or close) the night with their trademarked and patented brand of humor and musicianship. Monday nights you can find yours truly in the guise of "Junebug" hosting the pen Stage; and Tuesday night at Jackie ’s is for Celtic jamming. The UnionTonight the Union hosts the ever-popular Dance or Die. Friday night the shoe-gazing (and name-mangling) aspects of local acts Russenorsk Esskyma and Zephuros combine with the She Bears for a night of thoughtful music.
Avoid Valentine’s Day?

The media onslaught will be merciless so make sure that you avoid all contact with the radio newspapers magazines and television. It may be a good idea to compile a CD of songs to inspire you and get you through the day. While the choice of music is obviously a personal matter angry death metal and anything by Kevin Federline is sure to inspire many emotions other than love. A little help from your friendsWork will be tricky. There will no doubt be those annoying glowing people who display flowers on their desk or walk around on air gushing about their adorable partner or secret valentine. Your best defence here is probably to feign illness preferably of the contagious variety so that said people will steer clear of you. While applying khoki pen to your face in an imitation of chicken pox will probably look a little suspect you can wear a scarf which you can wrap around your head whenever the V topic threatens to some up in conversation.

Yeah vocalist Greg Puciato sounds more like Mike Patton than Mike Patton did on the former Faith No More frontman’s 2002 collaboration with Dillinger — but with a touch of ashen melody percolating electronics and songs about werewolves named Sunshine.
