Man to stand trial over alleged vegetable knife murder
stuff.co.nz – Nov 14, 2007
Apart from counselling set up to help Rickard accept the relationship was at an end the pair had had little contact since the relationship ended in late June crown solicitor Robin Bates told the court. When he arrived at Ms Telfer’s house about 5pm Rickard had the knife. He and Ms Telfer listened to music during the following hours and apparently argued intermittently. 15am the next day Lisa Telfer heard her sister calling out “no Shiloh” and went to the bedroom door. Vicki Telfer called out “No” then added “Shiloh is just about to leave” and confirmed she was all right. Rickard appeared to agree to leave Mr Bates said… He then allegedly leaped on Ms Telfer stabbing and punching her causing her to retreat to her bedroom across the hall. Lisa Telfer tried to intervene and Rickard alternated his attacks between the two women as each tried vainly to assist the other Mr Bates told the court. The knife blade shattered but Rickard continued stabbing both women using the metal handle of the knife. He then went to the kitchen to find another weapon and Lisa Telfer managed to escape. Returning to the bedroom with a 14cm-blade boning knife Rickard stabbed Vicki Telfer numerous times causing her death. Two of the at least 10 serious stab wounds penetrated 14cm and 12cm into her left upper chest and side severing her carotid artery and piercing her left lung in two places Mr Bates said.
