It’s a natural adjective for Brooklyn band Sound of Urchin. Look at the picture. You’re thinking death metal right? You’re thinking they play a few songs the.

It’s hard to argue that D. needs more soul especially when our city is the home of Marvin Gaye Chuck Brown and Raheem DeVaughn among others but one thing Washington sorely lacks is a good club night dedicated to funk and soul music. It’s sad when it’s easier to hear DJs gritty Southern funk and smooth Northern Soul grooves in England or Germany than here but tonight two of London’s prime movers are bringing it all back home. DJs Pari and Perry Louis host… He first let it loose in cult metal faves Acid Bath before switching things up a few years ago with primal garage-blues duo Deadboy and the Elephant Men (. It’s on full display in "We Sing of nly Blood or Love" his solo debut which is a swampy gothic collection of songs that isn’t too far off from Deadboy’s "We Are the Night Sky. " (Don’t be surprised if you hear a few Deadboy songs during his set.

: Bigger Than Life” follows the rapper’s life from his early days to his death with interviews from many of the behind-the-scenes music-industry figures and friends who watched the rapper rise from a street-corner hustler to one of the biggest rap stars in the world. The film also features several minutes of previously unreleased footage shot by a bystander of the scene on the night Biggie was gunned down. The fan’s video — which director Peter Spirer (”Beef” “Tupac Shakur: Thug Angel”) said has been reviewed by authorities — doesn’t capture the moment Biggie’s car was shot at but it does have audio of the shots and shaky footage of the chaotic aftermath… A second woman has filed a lawsuit against Lil Wayne over a. According to an AP story Carlisa Dixon said she was impaled on a metal pole after the crowd surged to snatch up money that was being tossed from the stage. Dixon is seeking $1 million from Wayne’s record label and touring companies and another $1 million from the university claiming she underwent surgery for a puncture wound as a result of the crowd surge. A lawsuit was filed in August by another woman who claimed she was trampled in the same money-throwing incident. A spokesperson for Wayne could not be reached for comment at press time.

Such is the case with Harptallica which as the name might imply is a tribute to the metal band Metallica played entirely on harps. The most unusual thing about the whole project is how frighteningly good songs such as “The Unforgiven” “Master of Puppets” “Enter Sandman” and “Fade to Black” sound emanating from a couple of symphonic stringed instruments. Harpists Ashley Toman and Patricia Kline are obviously familiar with the Bay Area metal band’s material down to the speed metal solo on “ne” which is recreated fairly faithfully here. Sure it’s a silly idea for a tribute album but it is performed with obvious love toward the source… Cash had an amazing array of artists on his show and just about all of the good ones get some face time on this compilation. Highlights include Cash and Bob Dylan singing on “Girl from the North Country” Derek and The Dominos performing “It’s Too Late” and Neil Young playing “The Needle and the Damage Done. ” Jazz legend Louis Armstrong appeared on the show mere months before his death and performed “Blue Yodel #9″ with Cash. A short list of the more than 30 guests that appear on the 2-DVD set include Stevie Wonder Creedence Clearwater Revival Linda Ronstadt Loretta Lynn Chet Atkins Roy rbison and Joni Mitchell. The DVD also features Kris Kristofferson (another Johnny Cash Show alumni) hosting a behind-the-scenes look at the show which was taped at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium rather than in Hollywood. While some of the costumes of the era might elicit some chuckles (check out Cash’s puffy shirt when he introduces Derek and The Dominos) this DVD set is something special for Cash fans or lovers of good music in general. Mayra Andrade: Beats on a collarbone
Telegraph.co.uk – Sep 27, 2007
“It was difficult for me at first like having a story to tell in a different language. But gradually they are getting closer to the authentic Cape Verdean vernacular. I have been playing them Cape Verdean music. The last thing I want to discuss with Andrade is the ferro she plays on stage. A long metal stick pressed into the shoulder and scraped percussively with a shining knife. “I see it as a kind of power the traditional Cape Verdean women had with this instrument with the batuque. If you ask them they will say ‘I have these problems: the men the money the children….

Despite the roster changes Motorhead has always been a hard-working band touring constantly and producing 19 studio albums most recently last year’s Kiss of Death. The album’s a hard-edged tribute to life on the road that takes a shot at church and state as well and shows no sign of a band taking their collective foot off the accelerator. Motorhead have been credited with inspiring speed and thrash metal but for Lemmy it’s all bollocks: "We are Motorhead. We play rock ‘n’ roll" he announced on his last visit to Australia in 2005 when Motorhead supported Motley Crue. Campbell says that after this year’s touring they are heading back to the studio. "Mikkey’s in Gothenburg in Sweden I’m in Wales Lemmy’s in LA but these days you can get on a plane and be anywhere in 12 hours. Except for Australia… Lemmy’s walking a different type of dog in LA at the moment. "Motorhead start their Australian tour at the Brisbane Convention Centre on ctober 3. Kiss of Death is out through Sanctuary Records. Share this article.
