Due to such subsequent hit releases as 1983′s Shout at the Devil (the band’s finest hour) 1985′s Theatre of Pain and 1987′s Girls Girls Girls. Despite all the success Sixx’s personal life was spiraling out of control as he seemed to have a death wish with hard drugs overdosing several times during this period (he was even pronounced dead by paramedics after one ordeal but was lucky enough to be revived with adrenaline shots). The whole group cleaned up their act in time for 1989′s Dr. Feelgood their most popular release yet while Sixx lent his songwriting skills to other rockers’ albums (.

} Imagine if the Beatles were 100 times more famous 1000 times more powerful and 1000000 times more stupid. h and imagine they played death metal. Ridiculous? Well that’s basically the premise of Metalocalypse a new animated series set to premiere on Teletoon’s Detour on September 3. The show features uber-band Dethklok the biggest harshest band in history and the ridiculous adventures and problems faced by members Nathan Explosion William Murderface Skwisgaar Skwigelf Toki Wartooth and Pickles. In any given episode the band might accidentally summon a Finnish lake troll or adopt a child in order to get a tax break. As the brain child of Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha Metalocalypse follows in the absurd-yet-hilarious footsteps of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Venture Brothers… “”We’d be on our way to Cannibal Corpse and be like ‘I’m pitching some show to this network and it’s going nowhere! h well let’s go to this concert’” recalls Blacha laughing. “But once we figured it out the whole idea just came together in a matter of hours. “But in spite of their obvious affinity for the music Metalocalypse isn’t really about heavy metal and Small and Blacha make a point of explaining this. “At the end of the day Metalocalypse is about celebrity and how it’s gotten so big and crazy” Small clarifies. “We take the ridiculous concepts of fame and power and funnel it through this stupid metal band. “Rock! Metalocalypse begins September 3 on Mondays at 10 p.

As a progenitor of the 1980s “Madchester” phenomenon Wilson magnified modern Manchester to the wider world in 1982 unleashing his designer Hacienda nightclub complete with what The Daily Telegraph’s rock writer Tony Parsons described as its “wailing wall of dance” and where five years later Madonna made her British stage debut. Although it gained a worldwide reputation Wilson’s superclub also attracted the attention of unsavoury local gangs and in 1991 “the Hac” was temporarily closed down following a spate of drug-related shootings. The entrance was redesigned and a £10000 metal detector installed to guard against guns and knives being smuggled inside. Wilson recalled arriving for the reopening as “the metal detector was going mental beep-beep-beeping constantly. It was then we realised that the Hacienda had metal floors. The following year with his partner Yvette Livesey Wilson founded In The City the biggest music gathering of its kind in Britain which each autumn drew decision-makers and opinion-formers from the London-centric music industry to rainswept Manchester to hear and see the latest indie acts. Fiercely chippy about his provincial roots Wilson regularly railed against ignorant media metrosexuals “who come here thinking that Manchester is still whippets flat caps and fish and chips”… It was there that Wilson discovered the Happy Mondays a local band whose subsequent success in Britain and in America led to the so-called “Madchester” scene making the cover of Newsweek magazine in 1990. But for several years Wilson and the Hacienda were embroiled in a war of words with Greater Manchester Police which wanted the club’s licence revoked because of widespread drug taking and its reputation for attracting local armed gangs linked to drug trafficking. In 1990 it was the scene of the first Ecstasy death in Britain when a girl of 16 collapsed: Wilson did not demur when the police identified him as the Timothy Leary of Ecstasy. Wilson’s “Madchester” phenomenon finally imploded in 1992 following protracted crack-fuelled recording sessions in Barbados for the Happy Mondays’ Yes Please! album and the group’s leader holding Factory Records to ransom for the master tapes; Wilson watched as the label was swallowed into receivership with debts of £2. His broadcasting work included appearances on Granada’s now defunct flagship current affairs programme World In Action and Channel 4′s late night discussion show After Dark; in 2006 he became the regional presenter for BBC Television’s The Politics Show. n local radio he presented his weekly Sunday Roast programme on Xfm Manchester and a show on BBC Radio Manchester.
