Silicon Valley's Metro – Aug 8, 2007
They thought it was too close to hardcore punk which it sort of was but with fewer haircuts and more Marshall stacks. Then Metallica broke worldwide and everything changed for better or worse depending on who you talk to. Nowadays you have every imaginable subcategory of metal whether it’s grindcore black metal death metal nu metal or post-Norwegian whatever. But the original thrash days were rocking violent hideous and fun as all bloody hell. The bands and the fans all hung out and swilled drinks with each other. It was authentic with a capital “A. “It’s really hard to explain what it was like to people who weren’t there” Holt said.

If singers and ex-partners Tim Bracy and Shannon McArdle matched their music to their emotions they’d be grinding out ear-pounding death metal instead of 30 Year Low’s country rock to match the cruelty they unleash. The brawling here exceeds ML’s usual down-and-out vibe venturing into a war zone as bloody as an anti-romantic epic like Shoot ut the Lights. Despite its gentle doo-wop sound McArdle’s opening shot “Since I Came” is an angry meditation about abandonment that suggests violent abortion as an act of mercy. Next she trades lines with kkervil River’s Will Sheff on “From an ld Maid” wherein her disappearing youth is brutally mocked. But she strikes back on the balls-out rocker “31 Candles” laughing at her ex’s pathetic devotion to a naive Lolita.

The farm that hosted the legendary Woodstock music festival in 1969 is up for sale AP reports. The asking price is $8 million… Black Tide the young metal outfit from Miami that had encountered problems joining zzfest’s second stage because of age issues are in luck. Since the band is too young to perform on the fest’s Jägermeister-sponsored second stage — its youngest member is only 14 years old — it’s hopped onto the main stage instead. Black Tide will be the stage’s opening act and will make their fest debut Friday in Tinley Park Illinois.

The album wrote itself. For us we created the beginning the middle and the end which was ‘X-mas in Hell’ ‘Intermission’ and ‘Life After Death. ‘ We had a double album of music and then it was a matter of honing it in for the soundtrack to get a good clear picture. We wanted to get a cohesive picture lyrically melodically and conceptually. I feel we achieved it. ‘The Heroin Diaries’ soundtrack will be released on August 21 on Eleven Seven Music.

CSTELL: Huntington is such a tight-knit community. I know everyone is feeling for those miners there. What are you telling people? HUNTSMAN: This is an unbelievable community; I’ve got to tell you. The mining community is tight-knit. They’ve been doing this for generations in this part of our state. The community pulls together like I’ve never seen a community pull together. ne can only imagine the fear of being trapped in a mine and our heart goes out to of course those miners… A tow truck driver and his passenger were burned when the truck got stuck in that huge hole that was caused when the pipe blew. The driver suffered third-degree burns over 80 percent of his body and he’s been in a medically induced coma since the accident. And now a little further upstate New York the farm where the famed Woodstock music festival was held in 1969 well it’s on the market. The 2000-square-foot house once owned by Max Yasgar and the 103 acres that it sits on are listed for $8 million. He owned the nearby Alfalfa field where Woodstock happened. That three-day concert helped define the movement of the ’60s. Also on the property a 5000- square foot farm house a barn and an 18-foot tall statue of Paul Bunyan which I think makes it a must-buy.
