Violette’s favored source heavy-metal music (specifically the specialist subgenres of black and death metal): an exploded drum kit its parts painted a charred black and a stagelike aluminum frame with white lights outlining an abstract version of the J?rmeister liqueur stag’s head logo. Propane lines hooked up to the drum kit parts would in theory emit flames if they were turned on and lighted. (They weren’t during my viewing. )In the back room candles and a broken Jack Daniel’s bottle all cast in pewter sit atop a black road case. A refrigeration unit inside the case causes a bit of frost to form on the candles.

In the same video a Qaeda member and adviser on American culture Adam Gadahn also known as Azzam the American said “We shall continue to target you at home and abroad just as you target us at home and abroad and these spy dens and military command and control centers from which you plotted your aggression against Afghanistan and Iraq. Gadahn who has been on the FBI’s most wanted list since 2004 was born and raised in rural California and was a devotee of death-metal music before joining Al Qaeda according to a profile of him earlier this year in the New Yorker. Al Qaeda in June released a video from a training camp in Pakistan featuring graduating terrorists who pledged to conduct attacks on British soil and in other Western countries. In light of the concern over possible sleepers in America the counterterrorism official yesterday said he thought the video may be a feint. “We are more concerned about sleepers here than we are about hardening any more our embassy targets” the official said. The British press has detailed Qaeda connections to the London and Glasgow plots.

Morén and the garbage can swiftly fell forward into the photo pit but luckily the singer caught himself before smacking his head on the black metal barrier separating the fans from the rock stars. As both fell a wave of ice spilled out onto the ground and Morén jumped up fast (that water must have been pretty damn cold) his pants and shoes soaking. He then made his way down the line autographing the discs and posing for pictures with the eager mob. Close to 20 minutes later a black plume of smoke rose from a backup generator and the show was back on. “Thanks for waiting” Morén said sheepishly as the band shifted into “Amsterdam” and the infectious “Young Folks.

“With farming you’re driving a tractor for three months then shearing sheep and mustering cattle for six months or whatever then on to another cycle. “The job is always changing but there are seasonal jobs which you eventually come across year after year. It’s the same with music. ” Noll’s last album Lift was a hit machine and a masterclass in anthemic pop rock. It had themes of death (Noll’s father Neil was killed in a farming accident in 2001) pain struggle and overcoming the odds. “I look back at my music and they take me back to places and times” Noll says. “It’s the only time I can really take stock and think about how far I’ve come.
