Rolling Stone – Jun 28, 2007
Shockingly he adds “everyone brought in books onCrowley and everyone brought in marching music. ” The new record istitled Era Vulgaris – “It’s what Crowley called thismodern age” – and songs like “Run Pig Run” were a response towhat Homme heard in marching music particularly the gypsy variety. “Gypsy music is scary it frightens the townspeople but it alsomakes them want to make love under the stars” says Homme who waspleasantly surprised by Vulgaris’ recent four-star rave inRS. “At the same time it’s difficult to interpret wrapped up in amysterious vibe. That’s the piece of candy I think of as the musicwe were trying to make. n Era Vulgaris you take shots at yourgeneration. “I’m Designer” includes the lines “My generation’s forsale… Trent Reznor and Julian Casablancas sing on the record. Why them?Musicians are like little children – they want to play together. Igot to know Julian when last year when the Eagles of Death Metalwere opening for the Strokes and I’ve always been a huge Strokesfan. Their first record and the first Queens record have a lot incommon: they’re driving music they’re angular and both wererecorded dry. Also both his fans and our friends might bedismayed confused or even angered by us teaming up that that’senough reason to do it in the first place. The same goes for Trent. [pause] I remember getting car sick on the winding trip upto his house in the Hollywood Hills.

Burned by Limp Bizkit guitarist becomes a cool cookie
Columbus Dispatch – Jun 28, 2007
After quitting Limp Bizkit in 2001 and rejoining it for a bit in 2004 Borland created a newoutlet for his music: Black Light Burns. The only leftover component from his Limp Bizkit days is the trunk of costumes and makeup kitsinto which he delves before a performance. The music features none of the funk or hip-hop elements of the Limp Bizkit “nu metal. ” Insteadit involves a decidedly heavy Nine Inch Nails influence. After creating the basic tracks as a guitarist and drum programmer Borland eventually wrotelyrics and began singing. BachMischa MaiskyDGM 073 4337 What you see is the original 2000 production by Peter Sellars but performed in Helsinki in 2004. The set consists of two metal corkscrew staircases separated by a stage covered with water. A glass boat illuminated from inside transports Rudel and the Pilgrim from one staircase across to the other. Dawn Upshaw who the piece was in part written for sings Clemence Gerald Finley sings Rudel and Monica Groop the Pilgrim. The language is French with subtitles in French German English and Spanish… Saaraiho has struggled all her life against tradition but here a subject that can know no end has finally caught up with her. There are many version’s of Mozart’s Don Giovann available on DVD and Jingo has just released another in Taiwan. While not being the best available it’s full of fun and musical pleasure. Recorded at the Theater an der Wien in 1999 with Riccardo Muti and the Vienna State pera it’s a traditional staging set in the early 18th century and dominated my the singers’ elaborate costumes and in particular their ostentatious and frequently gigantic hats.
