Queens of the Stone Age: Era Vulgaris : Music Reviews : Rolling Stone
Rolling Stone – May 30, 2007
Here’s a rock star who seems to shuffle his band’s lineupas often as he shaves his back yet who always sounds like himselfmaking fun of solemn art types but working harder than any of them. Hemanages to be the token metal dude for indie kids and the token punk forheadbangers without compromising for either camp. Homme makes music inall kinds of incarnations — the Queens Eagles of Death Metal hisendless Desert Sessions projects. But he always seems to inhabit his ownmusical world a zone where lost kids chase the desert acid-trip vibe ofclassic Seventies midnight movies like Vanishing Point and Two-LaneBlacktop. Really the scene in Vanishing Point where the naked hippiechick cruises across the desert sand on her Harley blasting Mountain’s”Mississippi Queen” could be the starting point for every song on thisalbum. Era Vulgaris is Homme’s fifth Queens album and like the others it’sintricately crafted meticulously polished and ruthlessly efficient inits pursuit of depraved rock thrills with robotic rhythm machines like”Turning on the Screw” and “I’m Designer. ” Last time Homme got slepton with the excellent but underrated Lullabies to Paralyze — peoplewere thrown off initially by its down-in-the-dumps mood which may be whythe music took longer to kick in for some fans.

When asked who they would most like to see in concert this summer the answers were as varied as Elton John’s wardrobe. Meatloaf singer said "I would love to see Gwen Stefani. And I would also really love to see a band called the Eagles of Death Metal. "Johnny Reznick vocalist of Goo Goo Dolls said "I’m working all summer so I don’t think I’m gonna get a chance to see a lot of bands you know other than the ones I’m working with but as far bands that I really enjoy right now I’m really into Muse love that band Muse. "Melissa Etheridge American rocker said "Ahh you know who I’m digging now Amy Winehouse. She’s badddd!"Jackson Browne singer and songwriter said "There are so many as soon as I start making a list. You know but I tell you who I really love I love I love Patty Griffin… I’d love to see U2 again. Um I’m always down for seeing them. "Music business analyst Bob Lefsetz says none of the contemporary acts alone can sell the sky-high ticket numbers that the old timers used to. So the trend is now is to bring several acts together on the one bill. Bob Lefsetz music analyst said "When it comes to developing acts we are really following Europe and the U.

Thousands of people showed up and even though almost no one could actually hear the music the massive sing-along of the crowd made the performance the most talked about in history. Thanks to the huge amount of people the orchestra were allowed to play until their last song when armed guards finally managed to storm the stage and arrest the musicians. They were sent prison and later sentenced to death by hanging. Stockholm 2003: by mere accident two of the original orchestra descendants met in a music shop and began to discuss music. It later transpired that they both had received a strange letter from an ancient relative containing instructions on how to reunite The Devil’s rchestra. They both became very excited and through some genealogy they managed to find all of the remaining successors in a period of three months. Unfortunately all of the original scores were confiscated and burned by the church back in 1503.

Kevorkian’s freedom will have many limits.
Free with registration – Detroit Free Press – AccessMyLibrary.com – May 30, 2007
–>CPYRIGHT 2007 Detroit Free Press Byline: Kathleen Gray DETRIT _ Jack Kevorkian will be among thousands of parolees with a predictable future when he puts on his new navy blue suit and crisp white shirt Friday morning and walks out of a state prison near Coldwater Mich. He’ll have regular required visits with his parole officer in Waterford drug and alcohol testing and standard requirements to stay away from felons weapons and anything that constitutes criminal behavior. But the man known as Dr. Death _ he claims to have helped more than 130 terminally or chronically ill people die from 1990 to 1998 _ will have some restrictions most parolees don’t. For example: He cannot provide care for anyone older than 62 or who is disabled. He can’t be present at any suicide or euthanasia and he cannot counsel people on how to commit suicide. But Kevorkian who turned 79 on Saturday can still be a vocal advocate for assisted suicide.

The first band on the bill were Karrion perhaps better known as three fifths of the late Sacred Flesh champions of the 2004′s local battle of the bands. Although still able to be described as heavy metal the remaining members seem to have lost their “black death” influences and lightened up considerably. New drummer Will (ex-wn Devices) brings a more straight-up rock feel to their music. Their cheeky stage mannerisms and bounding energy went down well with the audience coping well with the ominous “first set” time slot. Their songs are catchy and well written switching between mellow breakdowns with soaring guitar solos and intense almost power-metal-like riffs – perfectly combining impressive technical skill with intelligent creativity. Fans can expect an EP in late summer… The first band on the bill were Karrion perhaps better known as three fifths of the late Sacred Flesh champions of the 2004′s local battle of the bands.
