Metal File: DevilDriver Iced Earth Katatonia & More – News…

addEntry({url:window. href} {button:true} );DevilDriver’s first two albums 2003′s self-titled LP and 2005′s The Fury of ur Maker’s Hand combined the savagery of classic thrash and death metal with some modern musical touches. More importantly the discs established frontman Dez Fafara (ex-Coal Chamber) as more than a casualty of the nü-metal movement. At times however the records seemed a bit too much like apologies for a misguided past. Well Fafara is done apologizing. DevilDriver’s new disc The Last Kind Words (out June 5) is a scathing declaration of war to anyone who continues to deny the band’s importance.

But the real nub of the matter is what Alice means to rock & roll or more exactly what rock & roll means to him. Circumstantially Alice doesn’t believe in the sufficiency of rock dressing it up as he does in the macabre. Alice Cooper proved itself on Love It To Death to be a tight respectable rock outfit. Specifically it established the relevance of lyrics in heavy-metal music. It also demonstrated that with the requisite commitment Alice could be a certifiable rocker. But commitment and a palpable sense of self is above all what Alice Cooper lacks and that makes him an ambiguous not to say bogus actor black humorist madman shaman and finally musician. As the resources of the band the multiplicity of available alternatives expand (along with the sense that everything is permitted) the band’s focus becomes less and less defined.

From their self titled cover in 1998 that they followed up with internationally acclaimed The Aryan Crusade and Kurukshetra taking cue from the Mahabharata the band has been elementary in promoting Indian mysticism. But that only helped his career because he sought refuge in music eventually becoming the lead singer of a local band. During a time when psychedelic music was popular zzy and his band decided to play heavy blues. ne day during rehearsal the band noticed people queuing up outside a movie theater where a horror film was being shown – that made the boys in the band realize that crowds love to be frightened – playing on the dark side which has always been popular among some sections of society. So on learning that the band name Earth was currently in use the group appropriately re-named themselves after the movie "Black Sabbath… sbourne bit it for a goof thinking it was a rubber toy. He had to get rabies shots. Despite a $25000 donation later that year to the SPCA the bat story grew to be an urban legend of its own to the point where even numerous unrelated heavy metal bands were commonly accused of ritualistically killing live animals on stage. So if you still don't know who the real king of darkness is well better think again.

Are you metal? I don’t mean are you made of a durable alloy of some sort I mean do you RAWK* in every conceivable way that one can RAWK? I think I used to be slightly metal but my frail body couldn’t take it so I had to give it up for folk music. Anyway Dethklok is a death metal band of mythical proportions a group of five musicians who so embody everything that is metal they’re unable to really function in any other capacity. They’re the idiot savants of metal which is just fine because their worldwide fan base has made them worth billions of dollars. In the premiere episode over 300000 fans gather at the Arctic Circle to hear one song from the band a jingle they’ve written for a coffee commercial.

SaturdayRating: 2The French sometimes referred to the orgasm as the “little death” or la petite mort. It’s also the title of a pretentious and dull performance art piece by U. -based artist Marina Sossi. Her 70-minute solo show is a mostly wordless meditation on romance and loneliness… But it doesn’t really. Sossi wraps a white scarf around her head pulls out a cigarette holder and draws black wrinkle lines on her face. Then she sloshes water onto the stage from a metal tub and swishes the fluid with a mop.
