It was all there: Wikipedia was replacing libraries – because “you’re more likely to rely on the wisdom of crowds”. “Nerds” he said were the new cultural arbiters:”People who have never left the house are now surfing at home finding new talent” he said – so perhaps soon the only music in the world will be made by prog rock or death metal bands. Arora used phrases like “connected society” “democratisation of information” and enthused a plenty about the “Long Tail”. Everywhere he looked the internet was overcoming the homogenity of the modern world by promoting diversity he argued. Naturally there was no mention of research that shows people who spend a lot of time on the internet become more narrow-minded than ever – because they tend to seek out only people who share the same views. All was for the best in all possible worlds.

Bridge City Skatepark A weekend of heavy metal music awaits patrons of the Bridge City Skatepark this weekend beginning with the Brootal Fest concert tonight. Acts scheduled to appear include Wars Without End My Doppleganger’s Casket Before. There Was Rosalyn Survive the Musical and Collapse the Memory… There Was Rosalyn Survive the Musical and Collapse the Memory. n Saturday a colossal show featuring area heavy metal masters Vertigo Sun and Stale Mind will have the all ages crowd in a moshing frenzy. Special guest acts include Ten Ton Nothing and Until Death both from Louisiana plus the much talked about appearance of the band Drachen. Both shows begin at 7 p. and admission is $8 at the door for the show and $10 to skate. Texas Longhorn ClubBullriding returns tonight at the Texas Longhorn Club as riders will compete for cash and glory against some of the meanest bulls in the land.

He says in his artist statement: “Two years and many cameras and lenses later these images are the result of a small attempt to share the beauty that has bedazzled the consciousness of this viewer standing on the edge of the river with a box in hand trying to catch the lightning bolt of time. Reed will be there to offer poetry and conversation for the opening reception tonight from 7 to 8 followed by a book signing and special guest DJ Dean Wareham of the band Luna. The reception is sold out but tickets are still available for the book signing and the exhibit will be there for your viewing through Sept.
