Dean defies the ‘axeman’
Dereham Times – May 29, 2007
The vocalist and bass guitar player for death metal band Belial has developed a novel way of dealing with inquiries about the lack of his left hand – he tells people he lost it to a crazed axeman. The 19-year-old was born without his hand but has not let his disability stand in the way of doing whatever he wants to do from martial arts to playing in the band which is performing at the Marquee in Cattle Market Street on Friday. ?Sometimes I make stories up about my hand to make it seem a little bit more exciting than ‘I was born this way’. I’ve told people I was chased by a man with an axe and all sorts of things? he said. ?The meanest explanation I’ve ever given was when I was working on a fish counter.

They weren't kidding when they said it's a whole new style. It's more rock-ish instead of metal and if it's possible to be more emo they might've done it. I love their lyrics deep as always and the music's still good. However I don't much care for the clapping as part of the music. If you're a big fan of Mike Shinoda you may be disappointed to know that Chester (Bennington I just call him Chester. x3) is granted a much bigger role on MtM… It's more rock-ish instead of metal and if it's possible to be more emo they might've done it. He’d been scrutinised by its new security team as he approached the door body-searched once they had let him in (refusing to be searched will lead to admission being denied) and he could have been asked to walk through an airport-style metal detector too. While in the entrance area he couldn’t have missed the huge boldly painted signs which make T Bar’s zero-tolerance drugs policy blatantly clear. ‘Anyone suspected or found to be using drugs will be ejected immediately’ is one of those rules while the list of sartorial restrictions is wide-ranging: ‘No hats… It’s amazing that they couldn’t even be bothered to be discreet. My heart sank when the police pointed out graffiti in the toilets which said: “We were here to take ketamine on [the date]. ” I mean why do they write that? Do they want this place to remain open or not?’ It’s because the T Bar wants to stay open that it’s spent the time and money to make the venue safer but a real concern was whether this would impact on the atmosphere and that the party experience could be bludgeoned to death rather like Manhattan’s no-dancing-allowed bar scene lost its sparkle. ‘I got an email from a clubber grumbling about not being allowed to wear sunglasses’ says Ritchie ‘but there’s little point in having CCTV footage to protect our customers and staff if people are walking around with caps and sunglasses on. A lot of people have said they feel safer now especially women. And we’ve actually caught two bag snatchers since these measures were introduced. ’‘We tell people what we expect of them at the door’ she says.
