Metal File: Daath Behemoth Yakuza & More – News Story | Music…
MTV.com – Mar 30, 2007
addEntry({url:window. href} {button:true} );Daath guitarist Eyal Levi is issuing a stern warning to those planning to attend this year’s free zzfest which his six-piece death-metal outfit will be playing with the likes of zzy Hatebreed Lordi and Lamb of God: “No one better f— with us. You see Levi supports the old maxim that the best defense is a strong offense and after the kind of tour the band shared this winter with Goatwhore the Acacia Strain and Job for a Cowboy — the theme of which he said was “staying alive” — Daath are in dire need of a strong offense. Not that they’re proponents of rampant acts of violence — it’s more about protection Levi explained. “I don’t like getting into fights — it’s not what I’m into” he said. “But that last tour was so crazy as far as violence goes I just figure we’ve got to be ready… I am ready for whatever. We always envision the worst-case scenario as well as the best-case scenario so we’re ready for anything. I think we have some pretty catchy music and I think that people will dig it. We’re a grower kind of band — people will need to listen to us 50 times before they get what’s going on since there are so many layers to our music. But Levi also says the time couldn’t be better for an album like The Hinderers to hit the metal scene. “I think we’re the first really extreme band to be on [Roadrunner's] U.

“It is with great anticipation that we look forward to start for once a World Tour on North American soil! We’re excited to have Unearth Devildriver and Kataklysm on this diabolic ride and can’t wait to meet all our loyal fans and friends old and new once again. Come join us in The Invaluable Darkness!” Unearth’s Trevor Phipps predicts “this tour is going to be an un-fucking-real diverse clash of heavy music. We haven’t hit the road with DIMMU since the 2004 zzfest. Devil Driver is always a great band to share the stage with and Kataklysm is one of the best death metal bands around today. Good times ahead!” KATAKLYSM lead singer Maurizio Iacono chimes in: “We especially thank Silenoz for hand-picking Kataklysm for the tour. Washington Post – Mar 30, 2007
(They’re no holy rollers though — even if their lyrics are spiked with religious vernacular and questions of spirituality. )The Cold War Kids are recent graduates to headliner status after having spent most of their short touring life opening for other artists. But they’re no spotlight hogs: Wednesday the Kids invited their two opening acts Delta Spirit and Tokyo Police Club back onto the stage to assist with “Saint John” a lurching blues song about a guy who’s been sent to death row for hurling a brick into the face of a college kid. As Willett sang about spending “another supper time in the hole” a full-blown hootenanny erupted with the 10 additional musicians making a rhythmic racket by banging on bottles cymbals bass drums even a metal garbage can lid. “Yours truly on trial I testify!” Willett yelped whipping the crowd into a frenzy. It had the feeling of a finale — but it came just five songs and 20 minutes into the hour-long set. It was hardly the last triumphal moment for the group whose music tends to suggest Jeff Buckley sitting in with the White Stripes to cover Tom Waits or something… “Yours truly on trial I testify!” Willett yelped whipping the crowd into a frenzy. It was hardly the last triumphal moment for the group whose music tends to suggest Jeff Buckley sitting in with the White Stripes to cover Tom Waits or something. Even the softer songs smoldered on stage. Particularly when Willett sang in a sweet falsetto which had the effect of making him sound like a woman. “Backseat of your station wagon listening to Nina Simone” he sang on the woozy ethereal “God Make Up Your Mind. ” “ne hundred years of solitude and only 12 years old.
Rock Music Menu: Punk rock world takes a deadly turn … again
zwire.com – Mar 30, 2007
But life got in the way and the band soon fell apart. The disjointed and drug fueled “Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow” was released in 2002 to not only tepid reviews but a tour that was marked by painful appearances by Anselmo who had more off nights than on attributed to drink and other mind-altering substances or chronic and debilitating back pain depending who you believe. Pantera’s guitarist Dimebag Darrell was murdered on-stage in 2004 an event that not only signaled the death of the saviors of metal but painted Anselmo as a scapegoat by certain sects of the music community for his personal and musical letdowns. Darrell was playing with Damageplan at the time a group noteworthy only because it was a resort tactic for the guitarist and his brother Vinnie Paul who had spent years sitting around waiting for Anselmo to reawaken an interest in Pantera. The future looked considerably bleak for Down until it cranked up the machine again for some European dates last summer to gauge interest in not only a drifting fanbase but ostensibly in each other as well. Results were strong enough to begin work a new album and to jump on the first leg of the Heaven and Hell tour in the opening slot a trek which ended this week. The band is now on a five date headlining jaunt before finishing up “Down III.
Music Review: Alesana “n Frail Wings of Vanity & Wax”…
The Trades – Mar 31, 2007
When they quiet things down for “Third Temptation of Paris” and the first half of “Apology” you encounter some clean guitar playing and discover that Shawn Milke actually has a great voice. The poetic emo trades off between singing and screaming in such a way that keeps those not enthralled with yowling delivery listening but may turn off more hardcore fans of the genre. “Alchemy Sounded Good at the Time” even throws in cinematic sound clips from “Underworld” and “Full Metal Jacket” in this most metal-sounding track of the bunch. Vocalist Dennis Lee throws in a few guttural death screams but otherwise keeps those to a minimum. n the whole Alesana mixes it up but the songs still fail to stand out as anything particularly special. In one sense they’re just another cookie-cutter band on the post-hardcore scene. But then they’ll thrown in an intriguing syncopated groove (“Ambrosia”) or piano riff to hint that Alesana is capable of genre transcendence.
The B List: Sing Me Back Home

I guess between shots of adrenaline and pussy Sixx got a bit homesick. “I had to run away high So I wouldn’t come home low”3.
