Some of the world’s biggest acts including Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood have already offered to perform in the legendary singer’s honour. The enduring showman who had his last gig in Melbourne at the weekend and whose hits include Most People I Know (Think That I’m Crazy) was remembered as a passionate performer who electrified fans with his powerful voice. Thorpe was hoping to finish a rock opera he had been recording with the Royal Moroccan rchestra and was planning a charity concert to form a foundation to care for peers who had fallen on hard times. Promoter Michael Chugg said the response to Thorpe’s death was overwhelming… Former Little River Band lead singer Glenn Shorrock said Thorpe was a "true child of rock and roll" who upstaged his peers. Shorrock said he shared a great fellowship and rivalry with the singer. "Billy was an uncompromising heavy metal fan and he played louder and higher than anybody and he lived his life that way" Shorrock said. "He was a true child of rock and roll and he had a great spirit. "Thorpe had the "metabolism of an elephant" and was "uncompromising in his approach to his music and his life sartorially elegant he always presented himself immaculately everywhere (and had) a wonderful sense of humour. The site contains messages exchanged by Sonya and her daughter including from December 2 last year when Carly wrote: "Hey wanka love you xx. " Police are already investigating Carly’s own MySpace site. She met hundreds of people online including many from the emo and gothic subcultures. Shorrock said he shared a great fellowship and rivalry with Thorpe as “old ’60s rockin’ rollers”. “I’ve been upstaged by Billy Thorpe many many times” Shorrock wearing a hat that Thorpe gave him told the Nine Network. “Billy was an uncompromising heavy metal fan and he played louder and higher than anybody and he lived his life that way. He was a true child of rock and roll and he had a great spirit. ” The 60-year-old rocker died early today at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney after suffering a massive heart attack. Thorpe was rushed from his Darling Point home in Sydney’s east by ambulance just after midnight suffering from chest pains. He later died with his family at his side… “They’ve asked me to let everybody know that we will make a statement in the next 24 hours about funeral services and things. “They’re just blown away with the response this morning it’s just unbelievable and we’re all very very sad; unfortunately these things happen. ” Chugg said Thorpe was the happiest he’d been before his death and was working on a new record. “I was told by Norm Sweeney the legendary roadie who worked with Billy all his life that Billy was probably the happiest yesterday that he’d been in a long time. ” Share this article.
