“Most people that are out there playing in bands are not musicians they’re just people holding guitars” he said. “They’re not playing the instrument the instrument is playing them. But if you’re truly a musician and you’re able to look at music as a whole and understand it you have a lot of doors open to you. There’s a lot of different kinds of instrumentation so you can always challenge yourself and give your audience a fresh taste of what you’re doing. Gods of War will be Manowar’s first offering in a series of albums about mythological gods — in this case din. “We’ve always been interested in Norse mythology and it’s been a lifelong passion for our fans as well” DeMaio said. “The idea is that din was the god of war and that lends itself to something big and dramatic… Floridian death-metallers Malevolent Creation have wrapped the recording of their forthcoming album Doomsday X. “If there were expectations they were of each other and making the music we liked. Listening to the music it’s readily apparent that no amount of calculation could have predicted an audience for music that is so unrelentingly idiosyncratic. Dailor’s affinity for the type of prog rock that had its heyday in the ’70s was mirrored by his subsequent interest in speed and death metal. The fusion of prog rock and metal bears the stamp of lyrics that are purposely over the top. Melville’s mythic themes were seamlessly retrofitted to mesh with the music. “Blood Mountain” follows that formula with a variety of creatures — a one-eyed beast resembling a Sasquatch in “The Circle of Cysquatch” or “sharks of the sky” with “leather wings bones hollow petrified” in “Hunters of the Sky” — that stand for the monsters and demons both real and imagined. “It makes sense with heavy-metal music” Dailor says… Melville’s mythic themes were seamlessly retrofitted to mesh with the music. “It makes sense with heavy-metal music” Dailor says. “It just fits perfectly using big hairy beasts and creatures. It’s a way for us to maintain being children using those things like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster that kind of captured your imagination when you’re a kid. It also makes sense that music that bridges generations brings together generations. Dailor says that he’s met and talked to fathers who bring their sons to concerts.

Judecalls his girlfriend Georgia even though Georgia isn’t her name. Jude’s collected so many Goth girlfriends along the way that he nowrefers to them by the states they come from. Jude also has a collection of grotesque and bizarre memorabiliawith ties to his death-metal music: sketches of the Seven Dwarfs drawnby John Wayne Gacy in his jail cell; a cookbook for cannibals; a300-year-old confession signed by a witch who was burned to death andso on. When his secretary discovers that a woman is offering the ghostof her stepfather and his favorite suit on an Internet auction Judethough dubious immediately submits the “buy it now” price. Soon a UPS truck arrives at his door with a long flat box. Insidethe first carton is a black heart-shaped box containing the old man’ssuit. This could be the start of a whimsical ghost story.

It seems I can’t use a public restroom without reading something death-metal related carved on the walls. Slightly hilarious though it was at first it quickly grew old. Whether it’s the standard “SLAYER” or a new one I saw just today “Death F—ing Metal” it seems these fans have left their mark everywhere. I’m not sure if metal fans feel more likely to be attacked or just hunting enthusiasts but it seems they carry knives everywhere. Now I can appreciate metal music though I’m not especially a fan… Whether it’s the standard “SLAYER” or a new one I saw just today “Death F—ing Metal” it seems these fans have left their mark everywhere. I’m not sure if metal fans feel more likely to be attacked or just hunting enthusiasts but it seems they carry knives everywhere. Now I can appreciate metal music though I’m not especially a fan. However I have several friends who are metal fans. Most of them are remarkably considerate and intelligent people. So why the violence toward doors stalls etc.

Isis embrace metal revival in the mainstream
New Zealand Herald – Feb 9, 2007
When Isis play at the Kings Arms tomorrow night it will be the start of three months of metal mayhem. The Los Angeles-based five-piece whose atmospheric and brutal art-metal will appeal to fans of bands like Tool Napalm Death and New Zealand’s own Jakob (who play support) are the first of a number of extreme music acts to play in New Zealand in the coming weeks. The finale will be the double bill of Slayer and Mastodon on April 21. “It seems like there is a rebirth of metal in the mainstream but basically I think it still has the same connotations for the general population that it always has – a low-brow brutish unsophisticated form of entertainment” he says. “But I think for a lot of people who follow metal in all of its various permutations or even just a handful of those it is a very valid art form and it has been responsible for some of the biggest innovations in music in general… “It seems like there is a rebirth of metal in the mainstream but basically I think it still has the same connotations for the general population that it always has – a low-brow brutish unsophisticated form of entertainment” he says. “But I think for a lot of people who follow metal in all of its various permutations or even just a handful of those it is a very valid art form and it has been responsible for some of the biggest innovations in music in general. Metal has had a greater impact on popular music than a lot of people are willing to recognise. His voice has a cold and steely tone. He’s not rude and laughs a little but it’s just that well he seems as hard as nails. Since forming in Boston in 1997 Isis have never cared who liked them. “We had no grand vision.
