MTV.com – Nov 27, 2006
addEntry({} {button:true} );The Eagles of Death Metal probably hadn’t gotten the mustache wax unpacked from their suitcases before their maiden voyage on the S. Axl Rose hit an iceberg Friday. n the first night of what was supposed to be a three-week stint opening up for Guns N’ Roses the band was unceremoniously dumped from the bill after a chilly reception from the audience at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. Following a well-received set by tour opener Sebastian Bach the Eagles took the stage and according to John Soeder pop critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer the band was met with “not deafening boos but lots of grumbling and grousing and.

Well the Eagles have responded: ?At first the audience refused to welcome us to the jungle but by the time we took our final bow it had become paradise city. Although Axl tried to November rain on our parade no sweet child o’ mine can derail the EDM night train. We say live and let die. ”While the Eagles? rebuttal may be just as silly as Axl?s diss big ups to them for not dipping so low as to mention Axl?s skeezy cornrows or how you know GNR?s new album has been delayed longer than the return of Christ… ne of the first bands to have their music issued on CD the Beatles have thus far refused to release their catalogue online. f course you probably own all those CDs. But for many — especially fresh-faced downloaders armed with mommy and daddy?s credit card — this is good news. Curious: How many of you would download Beatles songs if available on ITunes?Christian Hoard.
Underground music out in the open

So imagine Emo’s booker Graham Williams’ surprise when a whole bunch of touring acts wanted to play the club on Dec. The death metal band Cannibal Corpse was already locked into the club on that date so the 28-year-old Williams told the bands to check out La Zona Rosa a room of a similar size to the outdoor portion of Emo’s. Furthermore equally capacious Stubb’s wasn’t going to work and other clubs were too small. “I just thought ‘How can Austin the music capital of the world not have these shows on a Friday night?’ ” Williams says. So he decided to book all the bands at once… To be fair this sort of thing has been cooking in Williams’ brain for a long time especially after the Austin City Limits Festival took off. “I always thought it’d be cool to have something more like Coachella” Williams says. “Austin is such a big place for so many scenes in underground music that it’s kind of odd that there’s no sort of festival for those underground. The fact that Emo’s was booked that night it kicked me into gear. He hit the phones in September locally and nationally for bands to fill out the lineup and by ctober the festival had come together. It helped that most of the acts involved were already on tour. “Circle Jerks Negative Approach and Prefuse are the only fly-ins” Williams says meaning they were the only bands that required plane tickets for this one-off show.
Streaming Could Cure Podcasting Blues

” While this certainly holds true to a certain extent I don’t see why one method of distribution cannot somehow complement the other – especially if part of the goal is to hook new listeners which according to the Pew study is something podcasts are failing to do. “The other big issue in my opinion is that where most streaming radio stations falters is *exactly* where this army of podcasters excel. Most stations have great music collections but no personality organization or direction – so you end up with a huge ‘jukebox’ of Swedish Death Metal (as an example) but no production or direction or voiceovers or anything in the way of what a good DJ provides. It ends up just being a huge playlist. “Podcasters though: they’re obsessively churning out very tightly-focused well-produced high quality neatly-packaged content. Some of these are people are building soundproof studios in their basement and dropping $5k in pro-audio gear so they can record better podcasts. And thus their shows are often better produced than anything going out over your average streaming radio station.
World of rock ‘n’ roll turns towards the kids

” Within seconds he spit up. His parents though liked what they heard. “This is hilarious” said his mother Pam Leto a music publicist who works with bands like My Morning Jacket and Eagles of Death Metal. “It’s actually really soothing” said her husband Dave Leto the tattooed drummer for the indie rock band Rye Coalition. It was the kind of reaction — hook the parents never mind the kid — that Lisa Roth was looking for when she founded Baby Rock the Los Angeles label behind the kiddie Cure album and lullaby tributes to Metallica Radiohead Pink Floyd Nirvana Led Zeppelin the Beach Boys Tool and Coldplay released this year. Almost the reaction anyway. “I’d love for the parents to say ‘Wow this is really funny’ and for the baby to fall asleep” said Roth 48.
